CHALLENGE YOUR MIND

THE POWER OF INQUIRY
The 55th Gene key presents a powerful potential for us to break free from the constraints of our self-inflicted victim consciousness. By deepening our definition of freedom, and realizing that it is our natural state, we empower ourselves to hold space within to be ready to break free of victim patterns of the mind at any moment. One of the most potent pivot points for realizing our freedom is a beautifully simple process called self-inquiry. I love to use Byron Katie’s process called The Work, which is four simple questions and a turn around that help us disprove the places in which our thinking tries to make us play the victim. Byron Katie is a renowned author and spiritual teacher who brings an extremely simple, effective, and down to earth approach to mindfulness and awakening. Check out her work here.
First, let’s contemplate the following question:
Where do you not feel free in your life?
Feel free (haha) to start a blank page and compile as much data on this question as possible. Is it in terms of your body, your job, your relationships? Try and find the core beliefs or thoughts that bring forth a strong feeling of feeling trapped, stuck, or victimized. Look for places where you tend to place external blame on people or situations and focus on those disempowering thoughts. You can learn a lot from this one question, so take your time and feel into this process.
Example: I can’t truly be free because my partner doesn’t support my dreams.
Next, let’s apply The Work to your beliefs, one at a time. It consists of inquiring into your beliefs with the following four questions:
Q1. Is it true?
Yes, they do not support me, so I have to just daydream instead of pursuing my goals.
Q2. Can you absolutely know that it’s true?
Well, I mean, I’ve never actually tried, so I guess not.
Q3. How do you react, what happens, when you believe that thought?
I feel sad, stuck, hopeless and like I can breathe.
Q4. Who would you be without that thought?
I would be calm, excited, and dreaming up the possibilities. I would just be enjoying the moment.
Next, we come to the Turnaround. This helps us flip our beliefs on their head and, oftentimes, see the absurdity to our self-imposed limitations!
I can’t truly be free because my partner doesn’t support my dreams.
I can’t truly be free because I don’t support my dreams.
I can truly be free because my partner does support my dreams.
My partner can’t truly be free because I don’t support my dreams.
Play around with the order here, you will feel it when it clicks into the statement that frees you from your victim state.
We’re never more than four questions away from realizing our freedom. May this week be the week you embrace the whirlwind and free yourself into your best dream yet!
