ADDICTION - INVENTION - SILENCE

WHO IS THIS ARCHETYPE?

The Inventor is an ingenious and masterful individual thinker who needs considerable time to contemplate before getting clear insight. This archetype is auditory and screens all the new thoughts that come through archetype 61 - the Mystic - selecting what is most useful and potentially inspiring for others.

The Inventor goes over things repeatedly, seeking to rationalize them. Every step of expansion is followed by a contraction in a mutative process that can feel like two steps forward and one step back. This process can also lead to melancholy as with all our archetypes that have strong individuality. Through focus, intention, and knowing how to let go of mutations that don’t serve, this process creates a powerful energy for moving forward.

The Inventor has learned how to befriend its intense mind; otherwise, it could easily feel like a slave to it. It has learned to let go of worry even if something isn’t resolved. The Inventor is able to consciously retreat from the activity of the mind into silence and mindfulness.

After becoming a master of embracing the gaps in awareness, the Inventor doesn’t push anxiety away or try to fill in the holes. It has made peace with emptiness and befriended the feeling of uncertainty. It’s in this space that resolutions and new inventions are eventually born. These are inventions that have the potential for great impact in the world.

Repressive Nature:

Frozen

The fear inside causes you to freeze up. This can manifest in many ways — physically as a complete lack of energy, emotionally as depression, and mentally as a narrow-minded and guarded perception of reality. The secret to all addiction lies in how you respond to these gaps in the functioning of our awareness. You simply do not allow yourself to experience the void that precedes a shift in awareness. You shrink from feeling that empty state of silence. If you were to face such times in your life without either shrinking or reacting, something truly amazing would seed itself in you.

Reactive Nature:

Anxious

You are unwilling to fully experience feelings of emptiness. The gaps that open up before you throw you into panic. If you react actively instead of passively, you do so out of anxiety. In order to escape the feeling of falling into a bottomless pit, you translate your fear into activity, and that activity obscures the potential magic that could have occurred inside you. You may be a workaholic or gambling type as opposed to the repressive nature, which might exhibit an alcoholic type of addiction. You are someone who cannot sit still, but are flooded with the anxiety that comes from avoiding the powerful and absolutely natural chemical process that is taking place inside you.

Questions to Consider:

Do I allow myself time to contemplate?

How do I pivot?

How do I respond to or nurture my creative impulses / creativity?

Am I compulsive?

How is innovation a part of my life?

What have I created recently?

What would I like to create?

When do I notice myself feeling melancholy?

What triggers my anxiety?

What are my favorite ways to practice breathing?

As I move through my day, I can notice when I feel inspired or empty.  What do I do?

When I'm stressed, how do I let go of worry, fear, or anxiety?

How do I shift from busyness to stillness?

What’s my go-to strategy for dealing with uncertainty?

Do I ever freeze up?

Do I feel like I can’t slow down?

Does fear catalyze me or paralyze me?

If someone asked me what my addictions are, what would I say?

If you find yourself reaching to fill yourself with something, consider breathing or shaking / bouncing in place for a minute to come back into your body.  After you become present with yourself, do you still want that food, drink, adrenaline rush, of whatever you were reaching for?

How do you cope with moments of emptiness or anxiety?

What role has addiction played in your life?

Have you used substances, behaviors or activities to numb yourself or fill a hole?

Today, pay attention to an arising feeling of emptiness.

Before reaching for that cookie, cup of coffee, glass of beer, television remote, phone or computer, take a 3-minute pause to breathe, and see what happens.

Where in your life do you feel innovative?

Is there something new that wants to be born in you?

Find one simple way to cultivate more inner and outer Silence in your life.

EMBRACE your shadows. Sometimes our shadows just need attention and love to be transformed. An embrace is a hug. We pull it in; we do not push away. Hug until it blends and transforms inside of you, revealing the GIFT within. The gift is then RELEASED within you and outside of you. You EMBODY the Siddhi when this essence vibrates through your whole being.

24 is in my Activation Sequence, and I have to say, wow. I’ve recently, in the last year or so, been speaking up about my internet addiction and even my addiction to video games. Things I use to “fill a void”, while tricking myself into thinking/feeling that I’m accomplishing something online or in the games – knowing that I’m just wasting my time. Now though, I’ve been embracing my addiction and noticing how I can be “addicted” to what I really wanna be doing. I also noticed how my actions with my addictions when used mindfully can be powerful towards… Read more »
